Transportation and my time

Something has to be done about transportation. Our current methods of transporting goods from point a to point b has become unefficient, unreliable and frustrating to say the least. A majority of the problem are drivers - mainly commercial trucks. Not to mention half of the nation's roadways were never clearly thought out. I can't tell you how many times I have been lost or almost crashed because of poor highway design.

Get out of my way!

If I have to go out to the store, meet a friend or business associate I find myself dredding the trip because of what is waiting for me on the road. Why does a visit to town always arouse such negativity? There are three main reasons and I will tell you why:

1. Businesses banking on my time
Not only do the big trucks do the most damage to our major roads and highways, but many people end up waiting on a company making money while you're going 45 mph in a 55 mph zone. What does this mean? Millions of people who drive to and from work waste millions of hours a year for someone else's profit. I don't know about the rest of the world, but my time is precious and I would think that the millions of hours of people's lives that are lost are therefore even more precious.

On the other hand if a truck tears up the road shouldn't that business pay for it? Why should you or I pay taxes for what someone else destroys? Shouldn't these companies pay for what they use and ultimately profit from?

2. Turtle Speed
There are many times I come upon a car in front of me very quickly because they are doing 15 mph under the speed limit of course! This situation is the worst on a two lane road where there is limited passing but can also be just as bad on a 4 or 6 lane highway. Even though the passing zone is for faster cars, the slower ones seem to think it was made for them. Is going the speed limit too much to ask? You also have the people merging onto the highway that cut across three lanes right into the fast lane - then they slow down.

3. The hare
I know what it feels like to get stuck behind a turtle and have to wait. The funny thing is though, when I'm going the speed limit or faster, someone always finds their way on my tail and pushes me down the road. Some just can't go fast enough. Once they finally get around you, they give you the finger, cuss at you and end up sitting right next to you at the stop light.

I'm not sure things will ever get better with our roads. It seems as though the government never has enough money while a large majority of the people are financially drained. Our hard earned money is being used on other things the government finds to be more important.
