Education a priority? Give me a break!
Studen loan rates are soon to be dropping so all you college students out there can start saving a few bucks. They have also changed things around a bit for those who are having a difficult time keeping up with the overload of bills. They can receive additional funds if needed and requirements met of course. Apparently this is a big deal to the major university officials who claim that schools are scraping by as budgets are shrinking because of drops in enrollment due to high tuition rates. Exactly how big of a deal is this when the stock market is at record lows, American deficit at the highest in history and most mortgage holders are losing their homes to forclosure because they can't afford the loans they receive.
A college education has always been a great achievement for me however it didn't help very much when entering the workplace. I was taught only what books could teach. Once I gradated I found that finding a good paying job in my industry was very difficult. I hoped that the least I could do was find one that payed the bills. Even though I tried my best and was top of my competition, I always found myself broke and unsatisfied. Luckily, I made it out from under an employer and started my own company. The sad part is there are many that are lost wandering in the world today simply because a career that can satisfy their needs both emotionally and financially cannot be found.
This brings me to my point - why is education so important when most graduates end up jobless? Though it is hard to point out, some children really dont want to go back to school. In today's mommy and daddy take care of me world, young adults are lucky to do anything outside of high school. That is if they make it out of there. Once and if they decide to go to college, they quickly find that they can't afford the cost and eventually drop out. For those elite few that happen to graduate from college, they will soon join the growing population of unemployed. This is because of tightened requirements such as experience, education and the willingness to work for nothing.
Times are tough and we can barely afford to feed ourselves so why are we worrying about the playstation, ipod and myspace generation becoming educated? Don't you think it's time to stop worrying about fulfilling jobs that don't exist? Jobs that these kids will work themselves out of because they are too smart? The intelligent ones will create new technologies that will replace the need for them while the others live off those who do all the work. This cycle is nothing new. I for one think there are more important things to worry about than Johnny cry baby getting help for an education when millions of children are going hungry around the world. People listen up because we need to get our priorities in place!
