I am Scott's lonely guitar sitting all alone
Music has been in my life for as long as I remember. My dad taught my sister and I to play the piano when I was very young. It was in my family. My papaw was a one-of-a-kind fiddle player that had a group of musically inclined sons. So natually I watched my dad and his brothers get in and out of bands throughout my childhood and so, while I was at it, I picked up a few tricks along the way. Some tricks I have mastered, but I've found that it can take a life time to perfect it all.
I remember sitting there watching for hours with an amazed look on my face while they played great music, drank their beer and smoked their cigarettes. I watched their every moves, facial expressions and the way their eyes met in order to keep time. It was like an alarm that told them to synchronize - and that is what made the sound come alive.
I remember picking up drum sticks and banging for hours on my uncle's set. I wanted to be a drummer but ended up on the path of a rythm guitar player and singer. A little bummed out, I am now greatful that the guitar found it's way into my hands because without it, I wouldn't have experienced what I have with music, composed the songs that I have and even more important, the ones I will write.
I could go on forever. Maybe I'll write a book about it!
