What happened to good music?

Your music is killing my ears!

I am an avid music lover and being a musician myself, I am always on the lookout for new music - music that has a beat, a meaning or simply a good tune. Over the years there have been some greats and a lot of not so greats. I don't know about you, but lately the music industry is boring me. What good stuff has been out that one can claim is a classic?

Hank Williams was an original. The Eagles were classic. Elvis was a legend. Who in this day and age can claim a title such as these? Yes there are a few great bands, but the American Idol generation is ruining the music industry. Why? Anyone who thinks they sound good singing in the shower feels they should be a rock star because mommy told them they could be anything they want to be. I have the same dream that you can be whatever you want to be, but you have to be realistic, practice and not just happen to decide one day you want to sing. If one in a million are awarded a record deal, part of production would be finding somoene to write songs for them to sing. They can sing but they can't write music, play an instrument or honestly say they feel music in their heart and soul.

Most of the new music today is a combination of new age style with an old classic or a total remix with the chorus of that of a classic song. I guess with seven chords it would eventually become difficult to create new sounds. But then again, with the money these folks make, they should all be number one hits.

I completely agree with you and usually look through underground artists rather than radio artists to find music I like. I think we should abolish record labels and make every artist go Indi. This might solve the problem.
