It's more than just bands
I was in a kick ass band a few years back with two good friends of mine. Well we practiced every week to the point where we were compiling a solid set list so that we could finally play a live show. We had the venue all set up and rockin! The time for our first gig was upon us and as we were setting up you could feel the tension between the three of us. Simply drums, bass and one... that is one guitar. So everything is setup but we can't get the sound quite right. We're running late but we get it going. It's time to play and the first set is awful! But after time progressed the crowd loved us. Every week we continued to get better. They began advertising us online and off. We were becoming a normal routine to most regulars.
Well once we took the first bar by storm, we were faced with expanding our reach and fan base. It only left us with question marks circling above our heads to the extent that we were out of ideas. After our frustration became too extreme, one of the band members suggested we create a resource that allows bookings and communication between bars and bands... a place to find bars that want you to play.
After 4 years in the planning, The Band Site was launched in 2006 for beta testing. It includes profile pages for bands, fans and venues. Bands have the ability to add audio samples, set lists, band members, description, photos, etc. Venues and event planners can add prices, photos, descriptions, maps, happy hour, links to their website and so much more! Users can submit reviews on bands and venues to aid in choosing a band.
We still have quite a bit of work left on it, but it will only get better as time progresses.
