Technology vs Energy
Everyday I hear of new gadgets and devices hitting the market that were created to make our world a better place, or at least a little easier on the people of the world. Tomorrow will be all the hype, while the products of today depreciate like driving a car off the lot. Yesterday it was the cell phone, today it is the iPhone. The only thing that has changed over the years, sadly, is the people who use them. So what have we really accomplished when given the opportunity to view our progress from a distant location, say the future?
The telephone was patented in 1876 and over one hundred years later, we are still using the same technology - the only difference is portability and additional functionality. With today's marketing schemes, manufacturers make it seem easy to upgrade the old to the new. It is still the same old thing except for a change here or a tweak there. It is no different than seeing a certain must have in the local shopping ad, telling yourself you have to have it and buying it simply because it's on sale. Same technology, different form. The bottom line, nothing much has really changed except for our dependency on it.
This leads me to my point - what kind of world is it when people live on the edge of their seat for what will come tomorrow when it can't be powered today? Fact of the matter is, we keep making more, buying more, spending more. What have we accomplished with what we've created? We use the web to talk more about problems. We've used online video for porn. Our kids communicate via text and u nvr knw wt dey r sayin. We buy products online that we don't really need. We make a call to our relatives on the telephone in order to keep them where they are so we don't have to lie to them face to face. We drive our cars from here to there and self serve our way to a full tank.
The resources we consume are wasted instead of using them to fund solving the basics. Companies reinvest their profits, people invest in their future, parents invest for their children. Still, our gas tanks are on E most of the time, the laptop always needs charging and the phone is always about to die. What is the value in something that we cannot power? How great is the work of our hands if it runs of out energy constantly and consistently?
We continue to look to tomorrow for answers instead of what is right in front of us today. The answers are there and others, like myself, can see them. It is simply a question of how hard you are looking and what will happen when you find the answer. In the end, no matter what anyone says, we are all connected - one. Yet the fight for survival, the ultimate power struggle, has separated us. What is good for you is good for me, but the battle starts with yourself. The sooner we see that, the sooner we will be able to experience what we all want - inner peace, world peace.
Who and what are you empowering?

Yes, everyone is running around finding more intelligent gadgets to communicate with. It's a sad day when anyone else knows how to socially communicate at all. I actually hate these things ... it makes people so lazy and dependent on these gadgets that they would die without them for just one day.
There needs to be more social communication and less gadget communication. Can your blackberry or I Phone hug you? Does it make you look smart? No. It makes everyone look stupid that the simplest of things escapes them.
One day the power grid will go off! What will happen then? Everyone better start thinking about this in the future. Learn the old ways, they will ultimately save your life at sometime in your lifetime.
